Brief History of Erzincan;

1 – Dark Canyon 

We are in the Dark Canyon , which beautifies Erzincan’s geography and where the most impressive nature sports are held . Dark canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world, is in Kemaliye district. The huge canyon between the steep and the rocks is an unforgettable place for those who see it. Tourists, on the other hand, can reach the canyon after a one-and-a-half hour boat ride.

2 – Girlevik Waterfall;

Let’s continue with the natural beauties of Erzincan Places to visit. Flowing piece by piece over the rocks, the waterfall takes on a magnificent beauty, especially in winter. Girlevik Waterfall is 30 km from Erzincan. away. I think the waterfall in the town of Çağlayan guarantees you a peaceful and enjoyable day with its natural beauty. There are picnic areas and trout restaurants. You can enjoy this natural beauty to the fullest with  a nice nature walk .

3 – Sour Water;

4 – Lake Aygır;

5 – Sakaltutan Ski Center;

Sakaltutan Ski Center  , the new favorite of winter tourism, which is also 40 km away from Erzincan, also offers accommodation in the ski center with medium and difficult tracks. It is possible to ski from December to March.

6 – Koroglu Cave

There is a very interesting cave in Refahiye district. What makes this place interesting is that, as its name suggests, it is said to be the footprint of the horse of Köroğlu, one of the heroic folk poets of Turkish history. Köroğlu Cave is on a steep cliff and you can reach it via stairs carved from cut stones. 80 km from Erzincan. Köroğlu cave, which is located at a distance, is a place that has managed to attract the attention of those who love nature structures.

7 – Mama Hatun Caravanserai

MAMA Hatun caravanserai , which has a great historical structure in this city steeped in history, is definitely among the places to visit in Erzincan . 12th century It is thought to have been made towards the end. The Caravanserai on the Silk Road was built of yellow cut stones surrounded by cylindrical towers at four corners. It is located in the MAMA Hatun Tomb right next to the caravanserai in Tercan. It was built in the name of the Saltuk Prince Mama Hatun.

8 – Melik Gazi Tomb;

The tomb of Melik Gazi, the founder of the Mengücek principality, is located in Erzincan Kemah. The tomb, which was built on a high hill on the banks of the Euphrates, is also remarkable with its architectural structure.

9 – Terzi Baba Tomb;

We are in the Terzibaba Tomb, one of the most spiritual figures of Erzincan . This important person, whose real name was Muhammet Vehbi, passed away in 1847 in Erzincan. Thousands of people visit his tomb every year. Muhammet Vehbi, who devoted his life to the path of truth, became known for his disregard for worldly goods. He is like a second Yunus Emre , whose heart is filled with divine love . He gained the love of humanity by educating many students in Erzincan and its environs.

10 – The Tomb of His Holiness Piri Sami;

When I entered Erzincan, the first tomb was Piri Sami Holiness Tomb. The construction of the mausoleum, which has visitors even while its restoration continues, was completed this year.

11 – Erzincan Kemah Castle;

History BC 3rd century. The castle, which is based on the I, has been exposed to many attacks and earthquakes throughout history, and only the entrance gate has survived to the present day. 12th century It was repaired by Alaattin Keykubat against the Mongols. Located in Kemah, a very old settlement, the castle has seen many civilizations in history. Adding a different beauty to the district, this castle served as an important defense area especially in land wars. Evliya Çelebi mentioned the castle in his Travelogue.

It is a beautiful monument in front of the Erzincan Governor’s Office. Ratip Aşir Acudoğlu 1947 is written next to the monument, which was erected as an expression of gratitude to “National Chief İnönü”, who showed great interest in the re-establishment of the city during and after the earthquake disaster that resulted in the destruction of the entire city on December 26, 1939. . On the back side; There is a stanza that begins with ” Day, a wretched woman holding her weary head” .

12 – Erzincan Museum

The museum, which was established in 1986, has become one of the visiting points of history-loving tourists coming to the city with the collections in it. Among the archaeological finds in the Erzincan museum, it is possible to see silk kerchiefs, metal finds, terracotta, sheep and ram statues and marbles. Among the artifacts in the museum are the local clothes of the city and examples of carpets and rugs.
